GIUSEPPE GARIBALDI: THE “HERO OF TWO WORLDS”

After the fall of the Roman Republic in Rome (1849) begins the march of General Giuseppe Garibaldi towards northern Italy, followed  by Austrian troops. Sailing from the port of Cesenatico to Venice, Garibaldi and his men are intercep- ted at the height of Comacchio. Thus begins an adventu- rous escape through the valleys of Ravenna (and the death of his wife Anita) and then for the countryside and the hills of Romagna.
Here is the “Route of Garibaldi”, the bold wander for two weeks until the Grand  Duchy of Tuscany: the salvation of the General was due thanks to the enthusiastic help of lo- cal people, farmers and patriots, as in the legendary priest Don Giovanni Verità in Modigliana.
